O.O My first book tag! I decided to get creative and make my own, and what better than one of the greatest bands of all time? (Click on the tag subject to listen to the song)
Too Much Love Will Kill You: the OTP that kills you every time because FEELS
Ruby and Liam from The Darkest Minds (by Alexandra Bracken) kill me every time. They have so much chemistry and are constantly getting ripped apart and thrown together again. Each time they’re a little different from how they were before, but one thing is consistent: that instant connection that only grows stronger and stronger. Both have their faults and recognize the faults in each other, which only makes their relationship stronger. And, y’know, they’re ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE TOGETHER.
I Want It All: a standalone that NEEDS a sequel OR a debut that you can’t wait for
When We Collided by Emery Lord JUST released on April 5th and I CAN’T WAIT to read it. Emery is a fabulous person and I’ve heard AMAZING things about it in the blogging community/on Twitter. It sounds so powerful and the cover is GORGEOUS. *runs to a bookstore*
Somebody to Love: a character that needs more love
There’s absolutely no way this tag would be complete without a Victoria Schwab book mentioned in it, and that book is VICIOUS.
Victoria mentioned during a signing that many, many people are fans of Victor Vale and a surprising number are fans of Eli Ever/Cardale. But one character I think needs more love is Sydney, a girl who gets dragged into Eli and Victor’s conflict and picks a side. She’s SO brave and quietly supports Victor; she’s the kind of person who brings out the caring side of Victor, however small it is. Sydney has become one of Victor’s weaknesses but isn’t weak at all. She’s learning to cope and survive on the darker side of life. Plus, she’s got the coolest power ever. (Can’t say, spoilers 😉 ).
Don’t Stop Me Now: a book you couldn’t put down
Lock In by John Scalzi is a well-crafted technology-laden mystery/crime book and DEAR GOODNESS. It’s riveting. Scalzi has a unique voice that is just as entertaining, if not more than, his Twitter feed.
You’re My Best Friend: a book with a friendship you adored
Under A Painted Sky by Stacey Lee is a FABULOUS book. Annamae and Samantha are two VERY different girls: one a Chinese girl dreaming of being a famous violinist, the other a black slave girl ready for freedom. Together, they escape a small town and ride out west, wanted for a murder that is more like justifiable self-defense. That’s a basis for a pretty strong friendship and it only gets stronger as they learn to ride rough and make their way across the United States. Between nearly drowning, snakes, and illness, they become as close as sisters.
Killer Queen: a book with a strong female lead
Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein is a masterpiece but the center of that is a girl captured by German forces during WWII and interrogated brutally. I can’t say much more due to a HUGE twist near the middle of the book, but she’s so strong, in mind and body. Have tissues nearby when reading this book–it hits you hard.
A Kind of Magic: a book with a magic system you love
Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson has an AMAZING magic system. A person is either a Misting (one ability) or a Mistborn (has all abilities). YOU SWALLOW METAL AND “BURN” IT TO FUEL YOUR POWER. How cool is that?! Of course, all the abilities, since they’re fueled by metal, are related to metal. For example, tin heightens your senses to an incredible degree, and a tin Misting is called a Tineye. Pretty cool. There’s a lot more to it, of course, but this is the short version.
Huh…book tags are pretty fun. I LOVE giving recommendations.
